AION 2 best settings: every option explained
The most-upvoted AION 2 settings tips (r/Aion2, 1,802 upvotes) are about clarity: Camera Shake off, Player Particle Effect Display on Self Only, Set Main Target Upon Attack on with the click choices off, Preferred Search Direction on Front of Camera, an HP potion at 50%, and the pets, spirits, nameplates and floaters on your own character hidden. For AoE markers on bright ground one player raises White Point Reduction (Accessibility › Visual Assist) to 10. Below: all 430 options the game lists in 11 tabs with its own descriptions, and what players pick.
Players' picks
What r/Aion2 recommends, as of 2026-10-22.
How it's counted
The option names, paths and descriptions are the game's; the values and reasons are the players', in our words. These are tastes, not a power ranking.
White Point Reduction
Accessibility › Visual Assist
Set to: 10
Reduces glare by reducing the intensity of bright colors. The higher the value, the more glare is reduced. A noticeable difference in overall tone may occur.
A player who could not see the AoE markers on bright ground raised it from 0 to 10: still not perfect, but much better. A commenter put theirs from 0 to 1 and lost the harsh bloom everywhere.
Camera Shake Effect During Combat
Graphics › Camera / Direction
Set to: Offdefault On
Plays camera shake effects for attack hits and skill effects.
The post's first tip: the screen no longer shakes in combat, so the fight is easier to read.
Player Particle Effect Display
Graphics › Optimize
Set to: Self Only
Sets the range of visible player particle effects. (Graphics Quality and full-screen effects are not affected by this setting.) When set to Everyone, particle effects from all players are displayed. When set to Self and Party, only particle effects originating from you and your party members or those affecting you or your party members are displayed. When set to Self Only, only particle effects originating from you or those affecting you are displayed
Other players' particle effects stop covering the screen. The poster calls it a big clarity gain that can also help performance when a lot is going on.
Set Main Target Upon Attack
Combat › Controls
Set to: On, with the Left-Click and Right-Click choices offdefault On; Left-Click On, Right-Click On (AION 2 control mode)
Click the mouse to set the aimed target as the main target. When no main target is selected, the skill will automatically designate the hit target as the main target.
Stops the main target jumping between a boss and its adds once you already have something targeted. (The post says “Targeting section”; in the client's keys the option sits under Combat › Controls.)
Preferred Search Direction
Combat › Target Scanning
Set to: Front of Camera
Set the default direction used when scanning for targets with the [Change Target] key and targeted skills.
The post says Tab targeting then cycles through enemies in front of you on screen instead of grabbing random ones around you. The post calls the section Target Scanning, which is the client's name for the sub-tab.
Auto-use HP Conditions
Combat › Auto-use
Set to: 50%default On, at 70%
Set the HP Conditions for Auto-use.
The poster sets the HP potion to trigger at 50%.
Buff Auto-use Conditions
Combat › Auto-use
Set to: In Combatdefault In Combat or Motion
Sets the usage requirement for buffs to be auto-used.
Auto-used scrolls and food then only fire when you are in combat. The poster warns that for melee classes swinging at the air counts as combat.
Display My Nameplate: Character Info
Info Display › Common
Set to: Offdefault On
Sets whether character information is displayed on your nameplate. Turn this off to hide Legion, title, and character name information.
Less clutter around your character. The post says “My Nameplate”; the client has four “Display My Nameplate” lines (Character Info, Gauges/Bars, Markers, Status Effects) and the post does not say which were switched off.
Display My Spirits' Nameplates
Info Display › Common
Set to: Offdefault On
Display the nameplate of your spirits.
Same reason: less clutter. “My Spirits” in the post.
Display Party Members' Spirits' Nameplates
Info Display › Common
Set to: Offdefault On
Display the nameplate of the party members' spirits.
Same reason: less clutter. “Allied Spirits” in the post (the client's name is the party members' spirits).
Display Pets
Info Display › Common
Set to: Offdefault On
Sets visibility of all pets. When set to ON, your pet and other players' pets are visible and when set to OFF, all pets are hidden.
Pets hidden, again for a cleaner screen.
Display HUD Key Guide
Info Display › Common
Set to: Off for every state
Display controls when flying, swimming, gliding, diving, and falling.
“You already know how to move”: the poster switches the movement hints off (the post says “OFF, OFF, OFF”, one per movement state).
Damage on Me
Info Display › Floater
Set to: Offdefault On
Displays the floater when Damage occurs to me.
No small numbers popping up over your own character; clarity again.
Heal on Me
Info Display › Floater
Set to: Offdefault On
Displays the floater when Heal occurs to me.
Same as damage on me: fewer numbers over your character.
Display Boss Orientation Indicator
Info Display › Combat
Set to: Backdefault OFF
Toggle display of boss radius indicator for front and back attacks.
The poster keeps the boss indicator on Back to see at a glance where it is safer to stand and where to deal more damage. One commenter says Gladiators do extra damage to the front and prefer Front.
Quick Settings
Graphics › Optimize
Set to: The lowest quality preset
'Graphics Quality - Basic' simplifies graphics settings to default values. Can set any value for each item when selecting Custom.
A player says the lowest preset looks odd but fixed their FPS problems. The post is an image with no text, so which options it changes is not stated.
Sources: “Settings that made Aion 2 feel much better for me, with explanations” (1,802 upvotes), “Settings on super low look weird but fixed my fps problems” (394), “If you can't see AoE markers on bright places increase White Point Reduction” (10); upvote counts as read on 2026-10-22.

How we read it
The client keeps the settings window as text keys of the form String_UI_SETTING_TAB_<tab>_SUBTAB_<group>_<option>…, with a sibling …_DESC for the tooltip. We take the tab from the start of the key and the group from the part after SUBTAB. An option sits under the longest shorter key that has a label of its own; a child with no description and no children of its own is shown as a choice (Off, Low, Everyone…). Where the keys do not say, an option stays directly under its group, and we do not claim the order the game draws.
1,210 keys were read and 82 left out (mobile variants, popups, messages and bare ON/OFF labels). The client also carries parallel groups with the same names (for example Graphics › Optimize and Graphics › Subtitle, or Combat › Controls and Combat › Auto-use); the keys do not say which one the PC build shows, so each is listed under its own key name. 2 of the 11 tabs have no name of their own in the client; those are named from their key and marked.
Defaults: DefaultSettings.json as last decoded (2026-10-10); the table of the current build (2026.10.21) has no schema yet, so a patch may have changed these. Only 14 options are matched to a stored default, the ones where the field name leaves no doubt; the rest show none. The client does not store the order of the tabs, recommended values or performance costs of any option.
Questions
What are the best settings for AION 2?
There is no official best; these are what players choose. The top post of the month (1,802 upvotes, r/Aion2, 2026-10-04) sets: Camera Shake Effect During Combat Off; Player Particle Effect Display Self Only; Set Main Target Upon Attack On, with the Left-Click and Right-Click choices off; Preferred Search Direction Front of Camera; Auto-use HP Conditions 50%; Buff Auto-use Conditions In Combat; Display My Nameplate: Character Info Off; Display My Spirits' Nameplates Off; Display Party Members' Spirits' Nameplates Off; Display Pets Off; Display HUD Key Guide Off for every state; Damage on Me Off; Heal on Me Off; Display Boss Orientation Indicator Back. The reasons are about a clearer screen and fewer target mix-ups, not a power gain. Where the game's defaults are known they are shown on each card (the table was last decoded on 10 Oct 2026).
How do I see AoE markers better in AION 2?
One player's tip (r/Aion2, 2026-10-22): raise White Point Reduction to 10 (Accessibility › Visual Assist › White Point Reduction); the markers are still not perfect on bright ground but much better. The game describes it as: “Reduces glare by reducing the intensity of bright colors.” A commenter says raising it from 0 to 1 also removed a harsh bloom everywhere. The same post lists no other setting, and the client text names no AoE-marker option.
How do I improve FPS in AION 2?
The game's own texts for the graphics options say: Upscaler “renders 3D graphics at a lower resolution than your display resolution to provide faster gameplay performance” (TAA, TSR, DLSS, FSR); Resolution Scale adjusts “the balance between performance and visual quality” (High Performance, Performance, Balanced, Quality, Native); Mass Combat Quality: “Adjusts how many characters are displayed on the screen at once. At higher settings, more characters will appear simultaneously.”; Player Particle Effect Display limits which players' particle effects are drawn. Frame Generator (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, 6X, Dynamic) needs the upscaler on DLSS or FSR and, for DLSS, an NVIDIA RTX 40 series or higher. From players: one reports that the lowest quality preset fixed their FPS problems although it looks odd (394 upvotes, 2026-10-17); the top settings post says Self Only particle effects help clarity and can help performance. We have no benchmark numbers.
How do I stop target switching in AION 2?
The top settings post (2026-10-04) turns Set Main Target Upon Attack on and its Left-Click and Right-Click choices off, which it says stops the target jumping between a boss and its adds once you have something targeted. It also sets Preferred Search Direction to Front of Camera: the game says this is “Set the default direction used when scanning for targets with the [Change Target] key and targeted skills.” (Combat › Target Scanning). The game describes the first as: “Click the mouse to set the aimed target as the main target.” Defaults in the client: On; Left-Click On, Right-Click On (AION 2 control mode).
Can I turn off camera shake in AION 2?
Yes: Graphics › Camera / Direction › Camera Shake Effect During Combat. The game says it “plays camera shake effects for attack hits and skill effects.” It is on by default. The top settings post turns it off for a clearer screen in combat.
Are AION 2 settings saved per character?
Players say no. Posts on r/Aion2 complain that each new character starts with default settings and has to be set up again (157 upvotes, 2026-10-06; 66 upvotes, 2026-10-11). A commenter says the HUD layout can be exported and imported between characters; the other settings have no such copy that they know of. The client text read here does not say either way.
