AION 2 alts: what is shared between your characters

Which limits, storages and unlocks the game's tables give to the character, to the server, or to the account.

Per the client's tables, characters on one server share Server Storage (4,340 of 9,261 items fit, all 1,666 bind-on-pickup pieces included), 126 “Per Server” shop limits, 5 content tickets and the 5-a-day duty-mission cap; special skins and pets were announced as shared. Each character keeps its own titles (all 1,504), 68 of 73 content tickets (its own Lower, Middle and Upper Abyss hours among them), 388 “Per Character” shop limits and Character Storage. Our reading: an alt brings its own weekly counts, not a second server-wide purchase.

Shared on the server, or separate per character

“Per Server” is the game's own wording for a limit shared by all your characters on that server. Each line names the table field the count comes from.

Binding and trading: four kinds of item

Item.ExchangeType has four values in use. The tooltip line next to each is the one the game prints; pairing the two is ours (the table does not link them). Counts are of all 9,261 items.

Reading (ours): all 3,087 bound pieces are gear, and every one of them may be placed in Server Storage. Of the 5,895 items marked not tradable, 975 can be put in Server Storage as well, so Server Storage, not trade, is the route between your own characters. Only 279 items are tradable at all.

The tables do not say whether a second character may equip a piece bound by the first. The game does hold a line for the opposite case: “Gear Soul-bound to Another Character”.

Three storages

The game names them Server Storage, Character Storage and Legion Storage; items carry one flag for each.

Server Storage

4,340
items carry “Can be placed in Server Storage” (Item.CanStorage)

Your characters on the server. Expansion: 36 lines, the last costs 8,400,000 Kina (StorageExtensionCost).

Character Storage

5,434
items carry “Can be placed in Character Storage” (Item.CanCharacterStorage)

One character. Its own expansion column in the same table: 36 lines.

Legion Storage

3,768
items carry “Can be placed in Legion Storage” (Item.CanGuildStorage)

A legion's members. Expansion: 31 lines, the last costs 8,400,000 Kina (GuildStorageExtension).

3,821 items fit none of the three. Remote Storage (opening the storages from anywhere) is a membership benefit: “You can access Remote Storage with a Special Quai Membership.”

Purchase limits: per character or per server

Counted over the goods lists on /shops (merged copies for both factions). The game prints the two scopes as “Per Character” and “Per Server”; the merchant table calls the second ServerAccount.

Full lists: all shops and currencies.

Content tickets: counts and hours

ContentsTicket.OwnerType says whose counter a ticket is. Of the character ones only the three Abyss tickets are listed here.

Per server (5)

  • Shugo Festival Reward Key
  • Dimensional Invasion Reward Key
  • Sprout Badge Reward Count
  • [Daily Dungeon] Unknown Fissure Entry Count
  • [Conquest/Transcendence] Remaining Unobtained Cube Count

Clearing and exiting the dungeon without obtaining Odyle Energy Cube rewards will still lower the count. The count resets weekly. You cannot enter Conquest and Transcendence Dungeons when the count is 0. Limit is applied on a per-server basis.

Per character (68 of 73)

  • Lower Abyss Access Hours (Character)
  • Middle Abyss Access Hours (Character)
  • Upper Abyss Usage Time (Character)

Usage time will be deducted while inside the Lower Abyss. Basic usage time will be reset to 7 hours after the weekly reset. Abyss details on the Abyss page.

What the files do not say

Announced in a system mail

With this update comes special-grade skins, and they can now be shared with your characters on the same server. Following this change, players who purchased identical skins will be recieving exchange tickets so they may exchange them for other skins.

With this update comes special pets, and they can now be shared with your characters on the same server. Following this change, players who purchased identical pets will be recieving exchange tickets so they may exchange them for other pets.

Post 109 (skins) and 111 (pets); mail 110 repeats 109. The mails do not list which skins or pets.

Not marked in the tables

  • Kina and other currencies: CurrencyInfo has no owner field.
  • Regular skins, pets and wings: no owner field either (Skin.bIsMultiOwn is on 1,397 of 1,463 skins; its meaning is not documented).
  • Whether a character can equip gear another character bound.
  • Level, experience, Daevanion, skills: no table marks them as shared; we assume per character.

Questions

What is the point of alts in AION 2?

The client gives every character its own copy of most limits: 68 of 73 content tickets are owned by the character (Lower Abyss Access Hours, Middle Abyss Access Hours, Upper Abyss Usage Time), 388 merchant and currency-shop goods are limited per character, and titles apply to the character. A second character therefore has its own weekly dungeon counts and Abyss hours. Server Storage and the per-server limits are where characters on one server overlap. The tables do not say how much an alt is worth in practice; that part is our reading.

Can I move gear from one character to another?

4,340 items can be placed in Server Storage (Item.CanStorage), including every bind-on-pickup (1,666) and Soul Bind (1,421) piece of gear, so Server Storage is the only shared bag in the tables. Whether a character can equip a piece that was bound by another is not stated; the game's own tooltip has a line “Gear Soul-bound to Another Character”. Of 5,895 items marked not tradable, 975 can still be placed in Server Storage.

Which items can be traded between players?

Only 279 of 9,261 items are Exchangeable (190 usable, 88 miscellaneous, 1 currency). The other 8,982 are bound or not tradable, which is why Server Storage matters more for moving things between your own characters.

Do alts share currencies like Kina?

The client does not say. CurrencyInfo has 26 rows and its fields are CurrencyCategory, Desc, DescLong, IconResource, Order, FixedCol, bShow, UseRouteDialog, UseRouteValueLight, UseRouteValueDark, Contents, ShowTargetList; none names an owner (character, server or account). We therefore do not claim either.

Do skins, pets and wings carry over to alts?

Partly announced: the operators' own mails in the client say that special-grade skins and special pets “can now be shared with your characters on the same server”. For other skins, regular pets and wings the tables hold no owner field, so we cannot confirm it. (Skin.bIsMultiOwn is set on 1,397 of 1,463 skins, but what it means is not documented.)

What is shared across the whole account?

Little: 22 of 463 achievement groups are marked account-shared (18 Attendance, 4 Season Mission), 7 of 8 membership products are account subscriptions, 2 Daeva Passes are limited per account and 6 Substance Morph recipes carry an account limit (the game labels it “Per Server”). Shop limits use “Per Server”; the tables have no “Per Account” shop target in use.
