AION 2 class picker

Choose by how you like to play. Eight classes compared on what the skill tables hold — range, healing, shields, area attacks, crowd control, cooldowns — not on a tier list.

AION 2 has 8 playable classes: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. By their skill counts Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster and Cleric play at range, Gladiator and Assassin up close and Templar and Chanter in between; only Cleric and Chanter restore HP for party members. There is no combat model in the game files, so this page does not rank classes by strength — pick by playstyle below and read the counts behind every answer.

Counts from each class's active skills (12 bought with skill points and 13 stigmas each). Not power: a bigger number is a different playstyle, not a stronger class.

How each column is counted

Every count reads the skill tables (Skill, SkillEffect, SkillEffectFilter) and the game's own skill text. The same rules are tested in scripts/class-traits.test.ts.

  • Reach and ranged skills. Damage skills with a range of 15 m or more, over all the class's damage skills. Under 30% is Melee, 60% or more is Ranged, between is Mixed (the same 15 m line as Classes by the numbers).
  • Self-heal, Shields, Heals others. Active skills (stigmas included) whose text restores or absorbs HP (not MP); whose text gives a Protective Shield, damage immunity or an HP floor; and whose HP restore text names party members or allies.
  • Area attacks. Damage skills whose first effect hits more than one target (SkillEffectFilter.TargetCountMax).
  • Crowd control. Active skills whose text inflicts Stun, Root, Knockdown, Airborne, Fear, Frost, Seal, Blind, Slow, Knock Back, Grab, Sleep, Silence or Bind. Skills that only remove those statuses or react to them are not counted. Most carry a chance (the text says it), and the text adds that NPC targets are hit 100% for some.
  • Usable moving. Active skills with the game's "Mobile" tag (usable while moving). It is not a dash. Gap closers are skills whose text starts "Rushes", "Moves", "Leaps" or "Dashes" toward a target.
  • Rotation and average cooldown. Of the 12 skills bought with skill points: how many have a cooldown of 20 s or less (those with none included), and the mean cooldown of the ones that have one, both at the level skill points reach. Stigmas are slotted a few at a time and left out.
  • Skills the English client shows as "???" (Korean-only texts) are left out; all eight classes here have none.

Party role, as the game describes each class

The class descriptions are the game's own text (class table); the role chips and weapon come from the class table.

Class picker FAQ

What is the best class for beginners in AION 2?

The game files do not rate difficulty, and there is no data-based best class. What they do show: the smallest rotation (core skills on a cooldown of 20 s or less) is the Sorcerer's at 7, the largest the Assassin's at 11. Fewer cooldown skills means fewer buttons to keep cycling; it does not mean easier or stronger. Answer the four questions above to order the classes by what you prefer.

Which AION 2 class is best for playing solo?

No class is rated for solo play in the client. Counting skills that heal or shield the caster plus skills that take control of enemies, the closest fits to "alone" are Chanter 100%, Templar 92% and Sorcerer 92% (the picker's score, 100% = the class with the most of these skills). The game's own text says the Exploration difficulty of its expedition dungeons "can be completed solo or with a party".

Which class is best for PvE and farming?

The files hold no damage-per-second model, so any PvE or farming order would be a guess. What they do count: area attacks (damage skills that hit more than one target) — the Ranger has the most with 8 of 20 damage skills. Per-class skill damage and cooldowns are on each class page and in the /best rankings.

Which class is best for PvP?

The client has no PvP rating of classes. It does list crowd-control skills (stun, knockdown, root, fear, frost, seal, blind, slow, grab by the skill text): the Assassin has the most with 10 of 25 active skills. Many of them are chances, not guarantees, as the skill text says.

Which AION 2 classes are ranged?

By how many of a class's damage skills reach 15 m or more: Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster and Cleric are ranged (60% or more), Templar and Chanter mixed, Gladiator and Assassin melee (under 30%). Counts per class are in the table.

Which class can heal other players?

Cleric and Chanter. They are the only classes with skills whose text restores HP to party members; the Cleric has 5 and the Chanter has 3.
