Gear progression: what to wear at every level

Pick a slot or weapon type and see its whole ladder, from the first level to the cap, with what each piece gives, where it comes from and what you can upgrade it with.

This guide has 22 gear ladders: 8 weapon types, 8 armor slots and 6 accessory kinds. Each lists the gear that becomes wearable at every character level, from level 1 to the cap of 45. For the Greatsword (Gladiator) it starts at Spiritforged Greatsword (item level 45) and ends at Ludra's Blade of Extinction (item level 102, needs level 45) in 17 steps. Unique gear comes in 3 Gear Transfer tiers, item levels 36–70, 51–86, 86–102.

How each step is picked

One step for every character level at which something new becomes wearable (the item that needs exactly that level). It is the piece with the highest item level, ties going to the higher grade and then the lower item ID, per faction.

A step is not always an upgrade: a later step can have a lower item level than a piece you could already wear. The chip “Best you can wear at levels a–b” marks the steps that are the highest item level available over those levels — those are the real upgrades. The same data drives the “Best … at each level” block on every item page.

Only gear the global client ships art for is counted, one row per faction when the Elyos and Asmodian pieces differ. “Upgrades” on each row opens the Enhance, Amplified Enhance, Potential and Gear Transfer numbers of that exact piece.

Gear Transfer tiers

Unique-grade gear comes in three transfer tiers (the game's groups end in LvT1, LvT2, LvT3; “tier” is our label). A tier-3 piece accepts tier 1, 2 and 3 gear as the source of a transfer.

What gear should I wear at level 45 in AION 2?

The top step of each ladder: Templar Ludra's Scale Sword; Gladiator Ludra's Blade of Extinction; Assassin Ludra's Claw; Ranger Ludra's Fatal Bow; Chanter Ludra's Heavenbound Staff; Cleric Ludra's Fatal Mace; Sorcerer Ludra's Grimoire; Spiritmaster Ludra's Abyssal Jade. Armor and accessories have one top piece per slot (item level 102). Each is on the ladder with where it drops.

Is the item level the level I need to wear it?

No. The level you need and the item level are separate numbers: the Greatsword Spiritforged Greatsword needs level 1 and has item level 45, while Ludra's Blade of Extinction needs level 45 and has item level 102. Steps with a lower item level than a piece you could already wear are not upgrades; the ladder marks the real ones.

Which gear is the best I can wear at my level?

The ladder rows marked “Best you can wear”. For the Greatsword that is levels 1–39, levels 40–44, level 45: between those levels no other greatsword has a higher item level, ties going to the higher grade.

What is the difference between Enhance, Amplified Enhance and Potential?

Enhance raises a piece to +15 with Enhance Stones and Kinah (Min Attack +174, Max Attack +174 on Ludra's Blade of Extinction). Amplified Enhance continues for 5 more levels with Amplify Stones. Potential is a second track to level 4 that adds PvP stats. Every row's “Upgrades” shows the numbers for that piece.

How does Gear Transfer work in AION 2?

The game describes the Transfer Stone as “A formidable gemstone that transfers the boundless power of one piece of gear to another.” Gear Transfer is split into tiers 1–3 (item levels 36–70, 51–86, 86–102); a piece takes older gear of its own tier or below as the source and costs Transfer Stones, with a 100% chance in every row of the table.
