AION 2 pet guide
Pets are the monsters you collect by their souls and ride as mounts. What makes you stronger is not the pet you ride but how many you own and how far each genus — Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special — has grown: owned pets add their genus's stats, and Genus Insight opens nine slots you analyse for lines such as Damage Boost or Double Chance. Below: the order the game's numbers and players' experience agree on.
How pets work, step by step
1. Souls → a pet
Each pet is a monster: its souls drop when you kill it, and 5 souls register it. Pet Insight 2 takes 25 more, Pet Insight 3 takes 75 more — 105 souls from start to top. Where each soul drops.
2. Pet Insight → Owned Effect
Every pet you own adds its genus's Owned Effect, more at each Pet Insight level (Cogni: Lv 1 HP +10; Lv 2 HP +20, Critical Hit +1; Lv 3 HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1). Pet transformation available from Insight level 3. Duplicate souls of a pet at the top level turn into its genus's Soul Crystals.
3. Genus Insight → slots
One pet of a genus unlocks its board — the game: “Owning at least 1 Cogni Genus Mount unlocks Cogni Insight.” Each genus levels from 1 to 10 and opens a slot per level up to 9; an analysis re-rolls every slot you have not locked, and higher levels roll higher grades.
Which genus to raise first
Bosses = monsters of the Hero rank in the client (521), Nightmare's 26 bosses and the 71 bosses of Expedition, Transcendence, Sanctuary and Subjugation dungeons, counted by their genus.
How it's counted
Insight from pets = every pet of the genus at the top Pet Insight level (1,000 EXP each); analyses = 100 EXP each, up to the top level (the window labels it "per slot"; players' reported spend fits once per analysis). Our sums.
| Genus | Pets | Owned Effect, all pets at the top | Bosses | Nightmare | Group dungeons | Insight from pets | Analyses to 10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 41 | HP +1,230, Critical Hit +82, Might +41 | 417 | 21 | 52 | Lv 7 | 2,090 | |
| 65 | Mount Ground Move Speed +195, Accuracy Bonus +130, Dexterity +65 | 26 | 0 | 0 | Lv 7 | 1,850 | |
| 48 | Stamina +432, Critical Hit Resist +96, Precision +48 | 41 | 1 | 7 | Lv 7 | 2,020 | |
| 46 | Mount Sprint Stamina Cost Reduction Rate +13.8%, Evasion Bonus +92, Constitution +46 | 35 | 4 | 12 | Lv 7 | 2,040 | |
| 9 | — | 2 | 0 | 0 | none | 2,500 |
Cogni leads: 417 of 521 bosses, 21 of 26 in Nightmare and 52 of 71 in group dungeons — so its genus lines count most. The general lines (Damage Boost, PvE Damage Boost, Critical Damage Boost and the rest) count everywhere, whichever genus rolls them, so every genus is worth raising; Cogni only decides where the genus lines go first.
The nine slots: what each one can roll
Lines at Unique grade or higher, with their chance per analysis at Genus Insight 10 (grade odds × the option's weight).
How it's counted
Top range = the best grade's values. Slots 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9 roll the same lines in every genus; slots 4 and 7 differ.

Slot 4 is where the genera differ most: Multi-hit Chance — Natura; Weapon Damage Boost — Fera; Double Chance — Special; Perfect Chance — Natura; Back Attack Damage Boost — Varian and Special; Critical Damage Boost — Cogni and Special; Front Attack Damage Boost — Varian and Special; Damage Boost — Cogni, Fera and Special. So the genus decides which damage line you can chase at all: a back-attack class rolls Back Attack Damage Boost on Varian or Special, a front fighter the Front one.

What an analysis costs, and when to lock
Price with N slots locked = the base price plus the slot table's lock price for N locks (eight lock prices for nine slots; the game refuses an analysis with every slot locked).
How it's counted
That the lock price comes on top of the base is how players' guides read it; the table does not say. Analyses = 1 ÷ chance per analysis on average, and the count that gets it with 90% odds.
| Slots locked | Soul Crystals | Kinah |
|---|---|---|
| none | 4 | 1,000 |
| 1 | 12 | 3,000 |
| 2 | 20 | 5,000 |
| 3 | 40 | 10,000 |
| 4 | 80 | 20,000 |
| 5 | 160 | 40,000 |
| 6 | 240 | 60,000 |
| 7 | 320 | 80,000 |
| 8 | 400 | 100,000 |
| Genus Insight | PvE Damage Boost in slot 4 | Analyses (90%) |
|---|---|---|
| Lv 7 | 0.07% | 1,401 (3,224) |
| Lv 8 | 0.36% | 280 (644) |
| Lv 9 | 0.79% | 127 (293) |
| Lv 10 | 1.43% | 70 (161) |
At Unique or Heroic grade, Cogni. Slot 4 pools 14 lines of about equal weight in Cogni, Fera, Natura and Varian and 12 lines of about equal weight in Special, so any one line there has this chance (a little more where the pool is smaller).
Our rule: analyse with nothing locked until Genus Insight 10, then lock. Unique and Heroic lines only start at level 7; PvE Damage Boost in slot 4 is 0.07% per analysis there and 1.43% at level 10. Locking before that only raises the price of every analysis you still need for the EXP. From all its pets Cogni reaches Genus Insight 7; the 2,090 analyses on to 10 with nothing locked cost 8,360 Soul Crystals and 2,090,000 Kinah. Thresholds: Lv 1 0 · Lv 2 500 · Lv 3 2,000 · Lv 4 5,000 · Lv 5 10,000 · Lv 6 20,000 · Lv 7 40,000 · Lv 8 80,000 · Lv 9 150,000 · Lv 10 250,000 EXP (each level's EXP to the next added up — our reading).
The goal: Unbound by Genus
Every genus at Genus Insight 10 pays its own title (Insight achievements), and all five together the Unbound by Genus title: equipped PvE Damage Boost +4.5%, Attack Bonus +34, Critical Hit +68; owned PvE Damage Boost +1%. The analyses for it, after every pet at the top, add up to 10,500 — 42,000 Soul Crystals and 10,500,000 Kinah with nothing locked (our sum over the five genera).
Soul Crystals: where they come from
- Collection: owning 5, 10, 20… pets pays Soul Crystal (Bound) — 1,700 in all for the 21 milestones the client's 209 pets reach, plus Empathy Candy (Bound) every 50.
- Achievements: each genus's analysis ladder (5 to 500 analyses) pays 90 Soul Crystals and Kinah; Insight levels 3, 5, 7 and 10 pay Kinah and, at 10, a title.
- Duplicates: souls of a pet already at the top Pet Insight level are changed into its genus's Soul Crystals as they drop, so farming a finished pet still pays.
- Genus or universal: an analysis takes the genus's own crystals (Cogni Soul Crystal (Bound), Fera Soul Crystal (Bound), Natura Soul Crystal (Bound), Varian Soul Crystal (Bound) and Special Soul Crystal (Bound)) or the universal Soul Crystal (Bound); Auto-Analysis can be told to use the genus's only.
What players advise
The stats come from owning, not from riding
Players keep finding out late that the pet you summon is only the mount's look. The power is the Owned Effect of every pet you have and the lines on your Genus Insight boards — and both are shared by all your characters on the server (Soul Crystals are not). A 246-upvote thread was about characters at 1,900+ item level who had never opened Genus Insight.

Late-game filler — but not something to skip
Pets raise no item level, so most players fit the soul grind in after dailies and tickets, while crossing zones for other reasons. The same threads tell low-damage 1,900+ players that an empty Genus Insight page is exactly why their combat power lags their gear.

Farm Cogni first
Reddit, RaidRelay and the biggest Korean farming guide all start with Cogni: its Owned Effect is Max HP, then Critical Hit and Might, and it is also the genus of most bosses, so its genus lines count where it matters. RaidRelay's order after it is Natura, Fera, then Varian.

Farm camps, not single pets
Hunt where several pet monsters stand together and take every pet on the spot, whatever its genus; community maps and trackers (petsouls.dev, Pet Tracker) plan the routes. Young variants such as
Young Ursus are separate pets from the adults. When a monster drops a genus Soul Crystal instead of its own soul, that pet is already at the top — no need to open the Pets window.

Do not lock before Genus Insight 10
The most repeated rule: analyse with nothing locked until the board reaches level 10. The high grades barely show up before that and every lock makes each press dearer. If a great line comes early, players leave it on one of the three presets and keep rolling on another; five or six locked lines per board is a typical finish.

Special first, with universal crystals
No monster drops Special souls, so that board grows only through analysis — players spend the universal Soul Crystals there and keep each genus's own crystals for its board. Owning any Special pet unlocks the board; players name
Pagati, sold for Kinah, as the cheapest. Korean players rank it first too: no Special line is tied to one genus, so all of them count against every monster.

Slot 4: the lines worth locking
Players' order for slot 4: Double Chance on Special (they stop around 2.5%), then Front Attack Damage Boost or Back Attack Damage Boost on Varian or Special, Multi-hit Chance or Perfect Chance on Natura, Weapon Damage Boost on Fera and Critical Damage Boost on Cogni. PvE Damage Boost is good for PvE only. A high Unique roll can beat a low Heroic one.

Front or back: pick by class
High-end Korean and Taiwanese players set the Front or Back Attack line by how the class fights — a Spiritmaster or Sorcerer splits a preset between front damage and Double Chance, an Assassin wants back damage and Double Chance. On the global client those lines are slot 4 of Varian (front or back) and Special (either, plus Double Chance).

Hidden Cubes are the crystal mine
A
Key: Hidden Cube opens a cube that pays universal Soul Crystals — players report 1,000 a cube and call it the real way to finish the boards. Keys come from achievements, Monolith levels on every character, shops, the daily Quna key and some Duty missions, which is why players level alts for their keys. The complaint is bots camping the cube spots.

Analysis costs Kinah too
Every press takes Kinah as well as crystals, and locks raise both; one player only noticed after 5 million Kinah. Because the boards are shared across the server, players roll with their alts' bound Kinah.

The goal: Unbound by Genus
All five genera at Insight 10 earn the title Unbound by Genus. Players call it one of the top three titles in the game for PvE; one measured about +1,000 combat power from it. Others say the spend is poor value if you do not need the title.

Black Cloud Merchants: only what you cannot farm
The hourly Black Cloud Merchants sell pets for Kinah, each character with its own stock. Check a pet's Source tab first: many 'shop' pets drop in the wild or stand on the other faction's map, reached through the Spacetime Rift, and players regret paying millions for them.

Mount speed hardly matters
Every pet runs at the same speed in the client; a Korean test found the Fera collection bonus to mount speed only a small help, since little time is spent riding. Pick the pet you ride by its look.

Common mistakes
- Locking slots before Genus Insight 10.
- Expecting every pet at level 3 to carry a board to Insight 9: pets alone stop several levels short; the rest is analysis.
- Killing only adult monsters — the young variants are pets of their own.
- Buying pets from the Black Cloud Merchants that drop in the wild or behind a Spacetime Rift.
- Forgetting that analysis costs Kinah as well as Soul Crystals.
Korea and Taiwan: Korean and Taiwanese pet guides describe a different system: pets up to level 5 (about a thousand kills each), pet stats Korea halved in January 2026, and Double Chance on slots 3 and 9 of every genus. On the global client pets stop at Pet Insight 3, and Double Chance is a slot-4 line of the Special genus only — Taiwanese players and RaidRelay warn about the same thing. Copy their priorities, not their numbers.

Pet questions
How do you get pets in AION 2?
Kill the monster the pet is: its souls drop on kills, and 5 souls register it as your pet. 105 souls in all raise it to Pet Insight 3, the top level. A few Special pets come from the shop, events and achievements instead.
Which pet genus should I level first?
Cogni: 417 of the game's 521 bosses are Cogni, so its genus lines (Cogni Attack, Cogni Damage Boost…) count against most of them. Lines like Damage Boost or PvE Damage Boost count against every monster whichever genus rolls them.
How do you raise Genus Insight?
Every pet of the genus you obtain gives 500 Genus Insight EXP and each of its Pet Insight levels 250 more — 1,000 a pet — and every analysis gives 100. All pets of a genus at the top reach only Insight 7 (41,000 EXP for Cogni); the rest, up to 250,000, is analysis. Special pets give no EXP: that genus grows only through analysis.
Should I lock slots when analysing pets?
Not before Genus Insight 10, in our reading of the tables: Unique and Heroic lines only appear from level 7, any one line of slot 4 is 20 times likelier at level 10 than at 7, and every lock raises the price of each analysis (4 Soul Crystals with none, 12 with one, 80 with four). Players' guides give the same rule; if a great line comes early, they keep it on one of the three presets and roll another.
Do pets make you ride faster?
Not by themselves: all 209 pets run at 900 and sprint at 1,200 in the client. Speed comes from the Fera genus's Owned Effect (mount Move Speed) and Varian's (less sprint Stamina).
