Day of the Balaur Invasion Vol. 2

The text of this AION 2 lore note, as the global client gives it in English. No quest step asks you to read it, so it is only found in the world.

(Written by an ancient Daeva.) <Continued from Chapter 1> But that did little to ease our fear. Instead, we only grew more anxious, constantly wondering when and where it would strike again. Then, a new order was issued to our Legion. The Commander-in-Chief commanded us to uncover all we could about the Dredgion, including its structure, methods of combat, and weaknesses. I resented being given such a task, yet I knew it was necessary. It had to be done, and it was only fitting that such a burden should fall upon our Legion, led by one so unyielding. Once we began our investigation into the Dredgion in earnest, we uncovered many secrets, though at a terrible cost. We challenged the Dredgion time and time again, undeterred by the immense loss of life energy among our soldiers. In return, we discovered that the Dredgion possessed multiple gravity controllers, cores, and assault cannons. Of these, the cores were the most terrifying. They could unleash powerful magnetic fields of annihilation and destruction across vast areas, instantly draining the life force of any Daeva caught within their reach. With four cores embedded in its head, two within its wings, and one in its tail, no approach was safe from their devastating power. Our leader theorized that destroying all of these cores would cripple the Dredgion and ordered a systematic assault against them. Yet, despite our determination, the task proved beyond our capabilities. However, through our efforts, we discovered that the gravity controllers might be the Dredgion's true weakness. Located beneath the head and stomach, as well as atop its back, these gravity controllers revealed a critical flaw. Sufficient damage would cause them to rupture and explode, but the Dredgion's relentless beam attacks made it nearly impossible to strike them consistently. Only once did I witness a group of Sorcerer Legionnaires succeed in destroying one. They lured the Dredgion within range, then unleashed Hellfire together in perfect unison, causing the gravity controller to erupt. At some point, the Dredgion began appearing near fortresses and immediately disgorging vast numbers of Drakans from within its depths. We do not know whether the Drakans assigned to the Dredgions were naturally stronger or enhanced by some unknown spell, but they were among the fiercest foes we had ever faced. No matter how fiercely the fortress defenders resisted, once the Drakans emerged, defeat became only a matter of time. The Commander-in-Chief agonized day and night, searching for a way to counter both the terror of the Dredgion itself and the overwhelming might of the forces it carried within. Yet, no solution could be found. In the end, we were forced to accept the truth: there was nothing we could do. The final order from our superiors was simple. Flee as soon as a Dredgion appears.
