Hadala: ‹your name›. You came at just the right time.

Hadala: Do you remember Derk from Safe Haven? He asked me to deliver another letter to you.

Hadala: Does he take me for a mailwoman? Anyway, he was asking so desperately that I couldn't bring myself to refuse.

Hadala: Here, have a read.

Talk · 1 line

Hadala: ‹your name›! Please stop by. I have something for you.

Step 2 · 5 lines

Hadala: Judging by your expression, it seems like something serious. Is he unwell?

Hadala: Hmm, I don't know any details either... I'll admit, he wasn't looking particularly healthy when he gave me the letter.

Hadala: Quite frankly, he looked like he was at death's door. And he kept holding his arm, which I thought strange...

Hadala: You'll be going to Safe Haven to find him? Be quick. I'll tell Nemon for you.

Hadala: Saving someone's life comes first. Good luck!

Step 3 · 1 line

Found nothing but grass.

Step 4 · 1 line

Village Kid: Eek! Who are you?

Step 5 · 7 lines

Village Kid: For a second, I thought you were Uncle Derk.

Village Kid: Huh? Uncle Derk? He'd always come here and play with me, but I haven't seen him in a while.

Village Kid: I guess he's busy... But I really want to play with him again! Actually, he's looked kind of sick these days.

Village Kid: That's why I fetched some cold medicine for him! Do you think he's still sick...?

Village Kid: His house? I don't know where he lives…

Village Kid: But Uncle Galorik might know! They seem like friends!

Village Kid: If you find Uncle Derk, please tell him I miss him, okay?

Step 6 · 7 lines

Galorik: What's that? You're looking for Derk?

Galorik: Nobody's seen him lately. I was starting to worry, actually. You two are close, so could you find him on my behalf?

Galorik: Derk lives alone on the hill above the village. We offered him a house down here, but he stubbornly refused.

Galorik: He said he didn't want to cause harm to the villagers. Goodness knows how he might harm anyone, though.

Galorik: He's too kind for his own good.

Galorik: Anyway, go to the tent on the hill above Safe Haven. That's where Derk lives.

Galorik: If he's in trouble, let me know immediately. I'm ready to help him with anything.

Step 8 · 4 lines

The food cooked on the bonfire does not appear to have been touched.

The bloodstained clothes seem to belong to Derk.

According to the dairy, Derk might be in the Den of the Dead.

It seems Derk will be found in the Den of the Dead.

Step 11 · 11 lines

Galorik: Oh, you're back. Did you find Derk?

Galorik: He what!? Hold on! Give me all the details...

Galorik: Damn... So that's why he was so stubborn about keeping his distance...

Galorik: What a good man. To have been Karas all along... Fate sure is cruel.

Galorik: What's this? Derk wanted you to give it to me?

Galorik: When did he get so much Kina... Until the very end, he only thought of others...

Galorik: Don't worry, I'll make sure it doesn't go to waste.

Galorik: How are you feeling? I know the two of you had history.

Galorik: That makes you the last Hugo mercenary...? Oh dear... You must be devastated.

Galorik: Don't worry about his memorial. I'll take care of it whenever I have time...

Galorik: What a horrible, horrible day.

Step 12 · 1 line

Village Kid: Huh? What's that?

Talk · 13 lines

Derk: Ugh...

Derk: Wh-Who... Go away...

Derk: I know that voice...! ‹your name›? You really came... Haha, this isn't a dream, is it? *cough*

Derk: I can't stop the mutation... Still, you and Urd gave me more time than I ever expected to have...

Derk: Thank you... *cough* There's not long left... Listen... carefully...

Derk: There's a Kina pouch in the chest in my tent. Inside is every coin I've saved since leaving the company... *cough*

Derk: Please give it to... Galorik. I want him to use it for the village.

Derk: Although my hands are stained with blood... *cough*... I want to be of help to the villagers who accepted... someone like me...

Derk: I'm sure you remember why... the Hugo Mercenaries... *cough* ...first formed... *cough*

Derk: Arghhh...! Please... make sure I don't...!

Derk: Raaaarghh!!

Karas-Mutated Derk: Graaaargh! Hu...go...

Karas-Mutated Derk: Pro...mise... Kraaah!

Turning in · 6 lines

Village Kid: Where's Uncle Derk? Is he not coming back?

Village Kid: He went somewhere far away? L-Liar! Then what's that memorial stone about?

Village Kid: *sniffle* Uncle Derk... I really wanted to play with you again...

Village Kid: W-What? *sniffle* Uncle Derk will be sad if I keep crying...?

Village Kid: *sniffle* All right. I'll try not to cry now... *sniffle*

Village Kid: I'll come by often, Uncle Derk... *sniffle*

When it is done

"As I told you before, I'd rather you be the one to see me off." Hadala could not shake off an uneasy feeling as she handed over another letter from Derk. She thought Derk looked like a man handing over his last will and testament before heading off to die. "Actually, he looked kind of sick last time." A child living in Safe Haven missed "Mr. Derk", who was always kind and fun to play with.He used to spend time by the water, saying it was a secret spot he and his friend visited often. Some days, he would silently stare at the memorial that had suddenly appeared there one day. Now, this unfamiliar Daeva visiting the spot claims to be Mr. Derk's friend. Sensing a strange familiarity with the Daeva, the child mentioned that maybe Galorik would know where Derk went. "He's too kind for his own good." Galorik had offered Derk a home in the village again and again but Derk refused every time. Lately, he had even stopped doing the errands he used to enjoy completing around town and rarely leaves his tent.Galorik did see him get roughed up trying to deal with some thugs recently... He pointed toward Derk's tent, trying not to show his growing concern. "I want to be of help to the villagers who accepted... someone like me..." Knowing his body is nearing its limit, Derk headed to the Den of the Dead. When he saw the face of his friend, coming to fulfill the promise you made, he was finally able to close his eyes peacefully. Galorik mourned the loss of such a kind soul. As Derk wished, all the Kina he had saved up was donated to Safe Haven. Derk and Hugo were the reason the Hugo Mercenaries came to be. The beginning of it all. May the two now find peace together in Odyle's embrace.
